2.80 YOUTH COMMISSION

2.80.010 Created
There is created a youth commission in and for the city. (Prior code з 3-145)
2.80.020 Purpose--Duties and objectives.
A. The purposes of the youth commission are to make recommendations to the city council in matters relating to youth in the community and to provide leadership for the coordination of youth activities within the community.

B. The duties and objectives of the youth commission are:

1. To represent youth in community affairs;

2. To assist in helping young people understand and appreciate the workings of their local government;

3. To encourage local youth in their participation in civic affairs;

4. To assist in interpreting local ordinances which affect young people and to disseminate this information;

5. To provide a resource for evaluating city services from a young citizen's point of view;

6. To establish rapport between students and student government in the schools and the commission. (Prior code з 3-146)
2.80.030 Composition--Compensation.
The youth commission shall consist of two representatives from each accredited public or private junior and senior high school in Glendale, who shall serve without compensation. (Prior code з 3-147)
2.80.040 Membership--Selection.
A. Youth commission members shall be residents of the city or attend school in the city and shall not have graduated senior high school. The racial/ethnic/economic diversity shall be represented as fully as possible.

B. The members of the youth commission shall be selected by a committee consisting of the mayor, a representative of the Glendale school district and a staff representative from the city manager's office and their recommendations shall be subject to approval by the city council. 2.80.050 Term--Voting--Meetings--Organization.
A. Youth commission members shall serve a term of one academic year.

B. Each youth commission member shall be entitled to one vote.

C. The youth commission shall meet in regular session the first Tuesday of each month at seven-thirty p.m. in the city manager's conference room, City Hall, 613 E. Broadway, Room 200, Glendale, California.

D. At the first meeting after the beginning of the academic year, the commission members shall select from their membership a chairperson, a vice chairperson and a recording secretary to serve one term. No member shall serve more than two consecutive terms in any office. (Prior code зз 3-150-3-153)
2.80.060 Financial liability.
Neither the youth commission, nor any person connected with the youth commission shall incur any financial liability in the name of the city. (Prior code з 3-154)
