Consistent with the community’s vision, the Glendale City Council has consolidated all functions and disciplines related to the quality of the neighborhoods and future development under the Community Development Department. Through coordinated programs, streamlined procedures, and an internally consistent work program, this department is accountable for implementing the City’s development policies based on the community’s vision.
The Community Development Department consists of the following divisions:
- Building & Safety
- Economic Development
- Housing
- Neighborhood Services
- Planning (including Design & Historic Preservation)
- Redevelopment
These divisions work in partnership to ensure that all development review is done in a predictable and consistent manner and that the quality and character that Glendale residents expect from their wonderful neighborhoods is realized.

Redevelopment and Economic Development
The Redevelopment & Housing Division leads the City's efforts in all Redevelopment and Economic Development activities. Our mission is to improve the quality of life in the City of Glendale by promoting well managed business growth and development. We accomplish this mission by consistently providing excellent service to all sectors of the community.
Housing
The Housing Division’s vision is to ensure that all neighborhoods in City of Glendale are quality, livable places that are free from blight, where residents feel safe, and can access resources and services which enhance their ability to support themselves, their families and the community.
